electric window switche's

Post by S.Dhuper »

Hi I've got 405 GTX 94 Model, a couple of the tiny bulbs in the actual electric windows switches have stopped working one drivers and the other passenger, I would like to know can these small bulbs be replaced? or I have to buy new switches.

Hi
Easy job this, Pop along to your local model / hobby shop & get some 12volt grain of wheat bulbs, My local model shop has these in packs of 10 for £4. These are really small & have long wires coming off them, Make sure you get the 12 volt ones!
These bulbs are not the same as the originals, But they can be made to fit nicely!
On the drivers one shot switch the bulb is soldered in, That one is the difficult one to replace, Ive done a couple before, But it is a fiddle! Or £18 for a new switch from Peugeot ( I bet it wont be in stock, Special order only! ) Part number 6552 V1
All the other switches are easy, Gently pop the top rocker part off the switch, Get a finger nail under the side & it will pop off easily.

Note which way the round the bulb holder is to the switch body & then lift out the yellow plastic bulb holder with the bulb inside.

Note how the wires are fed through the back of the holder & warped around the 2 x legs on the side.

Remove the old blown bulb

Now, With your grain of wheat bulbs from the model shop you can strip back the insulation & make them fit a treat.

Once you have one in front of you in bits, You will see how its done.
You might have to gently cut the 2 x slots slightly bigger at the back of the bulb holder.
Make sure the wires wrap neatly around the 2 legs on the bulb holder, Also make sure the 2 grooves in the holder slot inbetween the 2 brass terminals sticking out in the middle of switch body

Push the bulb holder home & then clip the top rocker part back on.
When you stick the switch back in the car, Check it works ok & its facing the correct way up before clicking it back in the panel.
Its just that soldered drivers one shot switch thats difficult for a first timer to do.
Peugeot USED to sell the bulbs at £1 each, They soon stopped doing this & would rather flog you a new expensive switch!
Sorry about the picture quality, Rubbish Motorola camera phone
Any problems come back & ask.

Hi PowerLee, thanks mate for the info, in my thread what I meant was this that the drivers side switch isn't the "one shot" but for the passenger side, so I won't have to do the hard one [:)], so it should be fairly easy I hope!! now I have to find a toy model shop for the bulbs.
P.S. is it really as easy as that to take out the switch by just getting your nail under the switch and just pull it out gently of course?

To get the switch out of the door or center consoul.
Without the key in the ignition, Press down on the switch & gently get a small flat blade screwdriver in behind it & lever it out.
Put a bit of cloth between the panel & the screwdriver because the plastics mark easily.
Then just unplug the brown plug & the switch is free.
All the window switches are the same & can be swoped around, Except the drivers one shot switch, Thats different & so is the plug for it.

WOW you're an Encyclopaedia of knowledge on the 405. [:)] if all of the switches except the One shot are the same then if I can't get these small bulbs then I'll just swop them over with the rear switches.

Yes mate, all the other window switches are the same.
The one shot drivers switch is the only odd one.
