I have a 405 with 14x175/70 tyres on steel wheels.
Does anyone know if I can do a straight swap for alloys previously from a 306 (?) with 14 x 175/65 tyres?
Thanks!

Yes its a straight swop but you MUST, I repeat MUST use the alloy wheel bolts on the alloy wheels.
The steel bolts for the steel wheels have a taper end, The alloy bolts have a flat washer under the head.
Also if you keep the steel spare wheel, Keep 4 of the steel bolts in the car to use if you get a puntcher.
I have 306 GTI 6 alloy on my 405 with 195 / 55 15 H tyres on.
