205 starter and belt problems

Post by Dan205 »

Hi guys,
Car newb here! I'm having occasional problems starting, the starter turns but the engine doesnt. Usually I can get the car going by physically shaking it, or jumping up and down in my seat as I crank the key. Any ideas please!
ALSO Since I took my 205 for a good old rag yesterday, upon starting it does the high pitched "belt slipped" sound.
How hard is that to sort out on the 205? The alternator seems to be quite hidden down in the corner of the bonnet.

The prenegange starter soleniod is at fault from what you say or the switched 12 feed to the solenoid The noise could be the starter motor, the alternator belt or the water pump. Sprinkle some talk on the belts and if that shuts it up then new belt/tension required. Regards Peter

Tensioning the belt is quite straight forward as there is an adjusting mechanism. Check condition first though as if it has been squealing for some time it will likely be glazed.
