Hi
Turn the ignition on & enter the old 4 digit code.
Press button C
Enter a different 4 digit code then press C again.
4 beeps & 4 flashes from the Green led means the code is now changed.
A early GLX 406 also has total closure, Open all the electric windows, deadlock the car with the remote, Big button first & then within 3 seconds small button.
All open windows should now shut.
Under the front passenger seat is a small plastic storage tray for the handbook wallet.

You can also programme the remote keys to unlock the keypad for one minute when you unlock your car.
Pop along to a Peugeot dealer & ask for the 406 Key Guide leaflet.
Your lucky with the total closure mate.
Peugeot removed this feature late 1997 early 1998 for some reason.
Have a look under the front passenger seat & see if the handbooks are sitting in the hidden tray.

Nah, no handbooks in tray, went to peugeot today to ask about getting hold of some, and they wanted £47.55 just for handbook - what a bunch of con artists they are, dont know how they sleep at night, and as for keypad unlock with key, they wanted £39.90 because they would have to log onto the 'Main Peugeot Security Network' to find my secret key ID number because I dont have the blue security card!
Me thinks Peugeot are out to bleed us dry!

Secret key ID number? What a load of RUBBISH!
The only code you do need to enter is the keypad code which you already know.
All you need is the remote key fobs & the car to programe the keypad to unlock with the keys.
Try this first because they might already be programed in.
Enter the 4 digit code on the keypad & then press C 1 C
Next time you unlock with the remote, see if the keypad unlocks for one minute.
Peugeot issued a leaflet called the "406 Key Guide" on how to do this because the early 406 handbooks where WRONG.

The only other way to get the remote keyfobs to unlock the keypad is getting hold of a copy of the 406 Key Guide leaflet & following the instructions or finding someone who knows how to programe the keys into the keypad.
Try emailing Peugeot & asking for a copy of the leaflet in question & while your at it, Ask about handbooks too, You might get a surprise.
I get around 370 Miles before filling up again from a tank on my 405 with a 2 litre 8 valve engine ( 70 litre tank ) I would expect the 406 with the 2 litre 16 valve engine to return around the same mileage per tankful.
Peugeot petrol engines arnt that brilliant on fuel around town but on the motorway you can get some goo MPGs out of them, Just under 500 miles to a tankful.

Hi all
I tried emailing Peugeot as suggested by Power Lee as I too needed info regarding immobiliser and keys.
Peugeot repled with an email with this link suggesting it would help as they had no info. http://public.infotec.peugeot.com/
This is a chargeable information site with a minimum six hour charge of 10 euro's but a bargain price of 2500 euros for twelve months subscription.
Is this Peugeot customer service?

Hi
I asked a Peugeot technician about the 406 keypad & remote keys & he came up with the following.
Enter the 4 digit code on the key pad & then within 10 seconds press C C
Press the large button on the first remote ( 3 beeps )
Press the large button on the second remote ( 4 beeps )
Press C C again ( 5 beeps )
Lock the car with the remote, Unlock the car, Enter the 4 digit keypad code & then press C 1 C.
Next time you unlock with the remote the keypad should be unlocked for one minute only.
To switch this feature off enter the code & then C 0 C, To turn it back on enter the code & then C 1 C
We hope this is it, Report back please.
