309 wiper relay

My wifes old Peugeot 309 (1.3 of 1988 vintage ) has a rear wiper that has expired.
The motor is fine and the switch is working ok, so the relay seems to be suspect.
Herein lies the rub....where the hell is the rear wiper relay located ? I have searched high and low and can't seem to find it.
According to Haynes (and yes I know they are not infailable ) it does have a rear wiper relay, so if anyone can put me onto it's location I will be forever in their debt, (any excuse for the wife to pinch my Citroen !)

Hi
On my 1993 309 the relay is in the tailgate near the wiper motor.

Have you checked the wiring to the wiper motor?
on my 309 it failed at the connector to the tailgate strut, I am sure it was on the passenger side C Pillar
