406 central locking problem

Post by zaki406 »

It won't unlock using the key fob.It keeps locking itself.dunno whether other markets using Cobra alarm or not.
Under normal operations, after speed of 20km/h it will auto lock and when turn off ignition,it will unlock. Now the key will stay locked(altho' can still hear the locking motor turning weakly).
even after unlock using the remote,it will turn off the alarm only but the doors will still be locked.
if manually forced to unlock(the driver's door),it will lock/unlock several times before it unlocks(vibrating... kinda),sometimes it will still be locked!
any ideas?
tq.
mine is a 97 D8 malaysian model(assembled in malaysia,CKD).

more explaination:
My problem seems to be the central lock system ( like mine ), maybe not the
Cobra alarm from the lock n unlock sequences you have mentioned.
My alarm can be on/off but the central lock will lock n relock on its
own.
I tried the left front passenger side to lock or unlock after I have armed
or disarmed the alarm. It didn't work.
also at the driver's side when I disarm the alarm (but the
central lock will lock the doors again), turn the key to open position
and hold it in that position until the lock n unlock sequence finish
(about 3 times ) but still it will lock again.
Any help?
TQ.

Zaki, you have a knackered/out of adjustment central locking motor. This locking/unlocking sequence it is throwing at you is called recycling. If you can hear it 'buzzing' then at least you've identified which door it is in.
hope this helps mate.

I have the same problem intermitently at the moment.Could it possibly be a wiring defect?

problem solved.it is the relay/ecu under the dash(passenger side).
costed me only RM50 (secondhand parts) or GBP7/-.
it is the same for 405,306 as well.
