405 alarm

Post by David Humphrey »

Recently purchased a 94 405. It says in the handbook that the alarm may be disabled using a master key in a switch behind the nearside headlamp.I wondered whether this is something anyone has done ?I feel half afraid to touch it because of their fickle reputation.Do you need a special key?
Thanks

Usually the same key for the car. Nothing to be afraid of!

The 405 NEEDS a special key to switch the alarm siren on & off!
You will most likely find its switched off, A working 405 alarm system is a very rare find!
The key will have "TEXTON" Stamped on it, Flip the plastic cap up & see if the keyhole is pointed to "ON" or "OFF"

Apologies PowerLee, why do they make these things so complicated?

Hey it could be worse, It could be a pre airbag 405 security system.
They are so easy to beat its shocking!
At least the ultrasonic security system ( When its working ) only has one security flaw in it.
To test the alarm system, Lock the car with the remote key.
Wait about 10 seconds.
Manually unlock with the key in the door & open it.
If your lucky the siren will go off & the headlamps will flash.
To shut the alarm up just use the remote key to switch it off.
What kind of 405 are we talking about? Petrol or Diesel?

Hang on, No airbag?
Lets identify which alarm you have first???
At the top of the front door pillers is there a small ultra sonic sensor inside a small grey plastic cover on each side of the car?
If Yes then you should of had a key.
If No then you dont need the key, But I would invest in some better security fairly quickly!
Both systems will immobilse the car, But the early security system is seriously flawed & shockingly easy to beat!
The later system is a lot better & Peugeot ironed all but one of the flaws out.
I will NOT post details on how to beat the early 405 security systems on a public forum before anyone asks!

Thanks powerlee. There are no sensors at the top of door pillars and I cant find a switch behind the headlamp.I would like to know how to disable the alarm and immobiliser in case it goes wrong. The central locking doesn't work on the boot or fuel flap and sometimes when you use the plip it locks again after unlocking straight away.

Hi
You have the early alarm system.
The boot & fuel flap central locking motors most likely have a dirty electrical earth connection.
Dirty & poor earths are a known 405 weak point.
