Immobilised - Help!

Post by Malcolm »

Hi,
'96 406LDT. The wife has just told me that the 406 immobiliser won't disable.
Instructions I was given on purchase were to key the four digit code into the keypad and press the blipper to cancel the buzzer. Car usually starts.
Now, the light on blipper illuminates, but buzzer continues and car obviously won't start. HELP!
How do I get around this? Help really appreciated. Is this the system or more likely to be the blipper that has developed a fault. If so wher's best to get a replacement and how do you re-program?
In addition, the passive arming feature can be actived or de-activated by dealer according to User Manual. Is this something that I can do to prevent this reoccuring?
Thanks Malcolm.

Hi
Unlock the car, turn the ignition on & enter the 4 digit code & the green light should come on, then start the engine.
Also the remote RF keyfobs can enter the code for you & unlock the keypad for 1 minute only when you unlock the car.
The keyfobs have to be programed to the keypad first, once you have done this all you do to turn the feature on & off is.
To switch auto unlocking on turn the ignition on & enter the 4 digit code & then press C 1 C
To switch it off, Do the same again but enter C 0 C
You cant stop the imobiliser arming itself unless you unplug it with the engine RUNNING, But doing this can cause you problems in the future & I would leave the keypad alone.

Hi,
thanks PL.
don't know just what I did, but the blip seems to be working again. I had a play about warming the battery and pressing the button without the case on. Anyway it's working for now.
The car doesn't have central locking, doors have to be locked manually and driver door locked with key. The blipper can be used to activate and deactivate the alarm. The immobiliser auto immobilises after 20 seconds.
Once inside the car, ignition on, both 'Coded anti-start' and pressing the blipper are required to start the car. I've tried each one without the other and it won't start.
There is a seperate booklet from the driver's manual', 'alarm system + electronic immobiliser' which tells how to use the blipper. Here it says that replacement transmitters PartNo.VAS827 can be obtained quoting the transmitters code. It says that it works cutting off an electrical cct - starter motor, if selected will activate after 20 seconds. I suppose this has been an optional extra.
Don't suppose a replacement will be cheap. Remember the old immobiliser - a consealed switch under dashbord, easy to resolve if faulty.

Ive never come across this being fitted to a 406 before?
No central locking on a 406 sounds really odd too?
Im gonna ask a Peugeot technician about this, Im sure remote central locking was standard on every 406.

Hi,
It's May '96 first registered, so it's an early one. I got it from a guy in the office who bought it new. Wasn't this the sort of thing they did with the initial base models making the GL more appealing and giving room for later improvement on L spec?
Anyway, thanks.

Yeah, Sounds like something Peugeot would do, lol
The early L & LX spec 406s didnt have much fitted on them.
The GLX, SRI & Executives had all the toys thrown at them.

If Peugeot have the same policy on this as Citroen then its quite possible. My Xantia is also the base model and doesn't have central locking. With the Xantia you had to get the LX or above (which most were) to get central locking, possibly PSA did the same with the 406?

Thinking about it. When I got the '93 405 GLD new. There was an optional extra keypad immobiliser in addition to the remote locking / alarm / immobilser which was standard - operated by the key blipper. Why do you want two immobilisers?

Hi
The alarm / immobiliser fitted to the 405 before august 1994 is really really awful & very very easy to bypass.
I will NOT post details on how its done on a public forum!
Also the infra red key isnt the most secure way of transmitting remote locking signals.
The early keypads with the "D/N" button where ok, but the later ones with the "S" button are much more secure & insurance approved.
