Another 307 question (wheel bearing)

Post by doctle »

I need to replace a rear wheel bearing on the 307 its pressed into the disc. Can it be hammered out and a new one pulled in with a large nut and bolt or do I need a press? Thanks

That was my post! Unfortunately the cheapo bearing wasn't a success I'd like to change it myself rather than having to get a cab to the guy with the press wait until it's done and get a cab home again.

You can certainly do them with a threaded puller - I've got a set like this which I've done a few fronts with. You need a meaty centre piece, as they take a lot of pulling. At least if it's been out relatively recently the circlip won't be too hard, and it shouldn't be stuck in. Still haven't done mine, but it is getting to the unbearable stage, and quite likely an MOT fail in a few weeks, so I'll be digging the kit out again soon!

I have some 3/4 drive sockets and a massive eye bolt from god knows where I might give it a go. The centre isn't under much pressure as the stub axle runs through it. Thats a nice looking kit useful when you dont have a press
