odd thing last night.....1.9td facelift Xantia

stopped on dark side street whilst wife called at friends house,
sat with engine off, side lights on and a flashing caught my eye,
the green * sign in the middle of the aircon switch was flashing on/off at times NB NOT the light above that comes on with the ignition but the illumination of the switch when lights are on ?
All the other lights where on solid, aircon still works.
Any idea what it was trying to tell me ? nothing in owners book.
