anti sink

Post by meexi »

Hi,
When looking under my Xantia HDI estate i noticed the anti-sink sphere has the marking ACC on it. Could this be an accumulater sphere fitted by mistake. If so what effect will it have?

I think you have nothing to worry about. Mine is the same, I think the types without the damping all tend to be called accumulators.

Antisink spheres have a totally different connection compared with 'normal' spheres because the 'outer' body-thread is used only to 'mount' the sphere, the connection is actually made by way of a small metal pipe rather like a brake pipe which runs into the centre of the sphere.
Therefore its impossible to mix/match them.

... and you would never ever see/feel ANY difference whatever antisink sphere is fitted - or not [8D]
- as this is only used for rear brakes accumulator - once the engine (and then hyd pump) is turned off - or stalls during drive.
- meaning only in extreme cases you would ever notice the missing rear brakes.
Nothing to do with the antisink feature itself, but rather a precaution added because of the antisink feature.
