where is the TDC sensor on a 1.9D unit, its fitted to a ZX '93 on a L

There isn't one.
If you want the tacho sensor, then it could be down by the right hand driveshaft or round the top back of the bellhousing

Tacho sensor on mine is in the second location that Tom says. You cannot see it, only feel it from above, and it is retained by a pinch bolt that just needs slackening. They tend to go o/c when hot, and are of two types, determined by colour of plug that is located near oil filler neck.
