Rear Arm Bearings
Although my Xantia estate rises smoothly and silently, the rear wheels are beginning to get that sloping look. Maybe it's time for some new bearings. The catalogue shows a full repair kit for the BX, but for the Xantia estate they only list the bearings. What else is needed. Anybody done the job?

John,
The estate shares the large nut and bolt, the metal tube, the shims and spacers with the hatchback. You could therefore plunder a normal kit for these parts. You would need to buy the Estate bearings and seals in addition to the kit.
Hope that helps. I can also post Citroen OE numbers and descriptions if you need to buy all the parts separately, not using a kit, if required.
Jon

the taper bearings are in all hydraulic citroens, at least from what ive seen.
7 is the plastic sleeve, 8 is the bearing and race, 9 is the shim,10 is the rubber seal, 11 the metal bush, 12 the metal spacer, 13 obviously the long bolt and the square and circle at the top as the washer and nut,14 doesnt come with the GSF pack - not that you really need it.

Are the Estate arms different to the hatch ones, I was fairly sure that they were the same on the BX perhaps things have changed with the Xantia?

Hi,
If you get stuck for the plastic tube thingy, I have used a piece of plastic water pipe on my BX, slightly undersize in the o/d, making up with tape for a tight fit.
Don't forget to half fill with a mixture of half grease and oil, before inserting the last oil seal.
In addition, if you propose to keep the car for a while also fit grease nipples.
Good luck

I think No: 14 is the shim - in which case you certainly need it.

Different on both vehicles. The bearings are bigger on estates.
