Against the trend
[:)]I'll be looking at a Xantia hdi estate tomorrow[:)]
One thing against the purchase is going from group 8 to group 13 insurance.
Why the hell is it 13?
Pug 306 hdi is only group 5, same engine in Xantia 13.
Preface lift Xantia 1.9td group 9, facelift hdi 13 so must be the body not engine but the later Xantia is apparently stronger and safer.
Even new cars like the Stilo 115td is only group 5
Why, why, why???

Estates have always been higher insurance. My mate at Swinton says it's because of the risk of theft from the rear, which as you can see has a lot less to protect it. More glass and a lot of cheap scates out there never purched the vehicle with the rear load covers. He did say that you can lower the premiums by fitting the load covers with a seperate lock and upratting the standard alarm with a few more sensors. Personaly it always amazes me how they work out the groups for insurance. My Xsara VTR is a lower group that the equivelent Saxo but if I went for the Saxo I'd have to pay about £150 more than I already do (£280 fully comp SDP+B). The wifes Megane soft top only £20 more. Go figure.
