Interestingly no one has mentioned the question of tyre temperature in this thread. I accept that radial tyres dont generally run hot and are relatively insensitive to this problem it does provide some warning of an impending blowout due to overloading.
As a matter of practice I always feel the walls of the tyres on my first stop when I cary a load in the car or am towing a trailer that is new to me. I also check the trailer tyres to ensure that I haven't got a problem happening there.
Whilst I haven't looked at the Michelin site yet I would have thought that a car tyre was overloaded if it was necessary to blow it up to more than about 36 psi.
