gearbox oil change

What is the recommended oil change interval for my ZX 2.0 petrol gerabox? What type of oil do I need? I'm asking this because the local Citroen dealership closed so I don't have a clue.

When my ZX td was making a funny noise I went to a gear box specialist. He told me that most manufactures now belive the oil should stay for the life of the box, but 60k to 72k was about right as most modern cars have the first 'BIG' service at this kind of milage, new cam belt etc. As for the oil I used GFS's gear box oil think it's 75w-80w GL5, 2 litres no messing about same as the Xsara, straight in. Box nice and smooth. Problem was the noise was the drivers side drive shaft. Ah you learn every day.

Just beware of over filling. The monkeys who fitted a new clutch to my xantia changed the gearbox oil, but put too much in which caused hydraulic locking when cold with the result that I couldn't change gear when the car was moving until it had warmed up.

How can I now if the gearbox is over filled?

If over filled the oil with really p**s out of the filler hole which is also the level indicator. If you fill with the box still on the engine and in situ then when oil starts to run from the level hole then this is enough.

Thanks, you´ve been a lot of help. Luckily I received some good news, Citroen is back in Guatemala with another dealership. I want to try the new models and also the new Sensodrive gearbox. Have you tried it?
