Looks like the smart money is moving into BXs. 16Valver perhaps?

Remember in the early 70's Citroen actually owned Maserati and Citroen influence actually extended to the Bora (not a golf then) and the Merak both of which had a fully hydraulic braking system. the merak also had a SM gearbox.

Yes, and they rotted like pears. They cost a Fortune and leak like seives.

Really this discussion isn't going to help.
If you want an SM .... GET and SM... You only live once, and if you get something else that is a comprimise you always say "If only I'd ..."
And hey, if you decide it's not for you it can always be flogged off and replaced with something else [:D]
