Brake discs which ones please

Post by rpaco »

I have to replace the front brake discs on my 1998 S Reg Xantia 1.9TD SX. Hatch
The Andyspares (GSF) site lists many for Xantias but none for the 1.9TD hatch. I have been to the brembo site but the ones they recommend are solid and mine are vented.
Is there a definitive answer please as to what size/part number.
Also is there any advantage in one brand rather than another?
And where to buy them?
cheers

The GSF catalogue gives the part for all hatchbacks (except the 2.0 petrol turbo, V6, HDi and 2.1 TD) as N62316.
This is a 266mm disc, but its probably worth checking the diameter on your own car, because my 1997 1.9TD hatch inexplicably left the factory fitted with the discs/pads/calipers from the estate version!

My 97 Xantia TD Hatch had the 2.0 16v / Estate front discs fitted too, where as the earlier one had the 266mm discs. I assumed the bigger discs came because of the ABS but I could be mistaken.

This is not the first time that I've heard of 1.9TD Xantia hatchbacks using the bigger Estate front brakes, Dave Burns first bought this to my attention some time ago, I am going to look into this today, and post back the definitive answer.

OK, definitive answer, ignore GSF shop and catalogue for now:
Xantia 1.9TD hatch > RP7567 (28/7/1997)266mm discs GSF N62316
Xantia 1.9TD hatch RP7568>, plus 2.0 16v and 1.9TD Estates 283mm GSF N62332

Sorry to complicate matters further, but my Xantia is RP7542, and has the 283mm discs (and no ABS).

Just to convince you of my complete ignorance, what is the "RP" number that you quote above?
