Power Steering Ram, '93 ZX TD Aura

Post by Guru Meditation »

Afternoon everybody,
I have done a little bit of a search and can't find anything out about this-the Haynes 'bible' doesn't specifically mention this part. I need to change the PAS hydraulic ram and the steering pump on my ZX-I guess it is reasonably straight forwards getting the ram off, but does anybody have any tips on the best/easiest way to take the steering ram off? ie what side to work from, other components that need removing?
It's probably straight forwards but I thought I'd get some tips from someone who know's first-if anyone does.
Thanks

I've found that the high pressure pipes are always siezed solid into the ram and so its easier to remove them from the pinion valve instead. Do this first, then undo the big nut on the end of the ram. Then the bolt on the other end by the inlet. Then give the car full lock so the ram is fully extended. This will give you more of a chance of getting it off the long stud on the rack! Done several on several 306's (they are identical to the ZX).
