Do you know anyone who is a member of COSTCO ?
My brother in law is a member and I had a michalin tyre fitted to my 1993 Xantia SX TD, Fully fitted, balanced, valve and tyres rotated £39 the lot.
Its worth asking round

Are you sure they're not the ones made in Brazil or Mexico or somewhere? I had a set of those on a CX that lasted 8000 klms. The only reason I bought them was that I didn't look at them as I was told they were a "special deal for this month only" and that normally they were about twice the price I paid.
They rode well and cornered real well, but I've had harder rubber on shoe soles, that's why.

On a Hydractive, these "switch in" subject to speed. This is a fundamental feature of the Hydractive set up. Yes, there is an anti sink, but the involvement in ride quality is debatable.
And a "Citroen Specialist" said this?

Have a look at Vredestein HiTracs. I've had them on my ZX TD for 2,000 miles and find them excellent. Cost £200 all in for 4 (185/60 14)from my local independant. They also topped an Autoexpress test in 2003.

The tyres are deff Michelin, made in Germany.

check out http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/tyretest/tests.asp this gives reviews of almost all tyres.
Have you considered partworns? £10-15 for a branded tyre with 2/3 of tread remaining, can't go wrong.

Yep, part worns at £15 for the Xantia. I used to run remoulds at one time but these were prone to balancing problems - and used to melt on the SAAB 9000's driving wheels! I got a run of remoulds that were giving problems on the AX so I changed to part worns at £10 a time; now that's cheap motoring!
To be honest I've never really noticed any difference between the many different brands I end up with. I usually run my tyres to death before I change them and the improvement between the knackered old tyres and the part worns when they're changed is enough to satisfy me.

Definitely try the Vredestein Hi-trac, or even the Sportrac. My choice however is the new Goodyear Hydragrip, which has recently superceded the Eagle Ventura. The Eagle Ventura was without a shadow of a doubt, the best tyre available on the replacement market. In all areas it was good, and in most it was brilliant, including wet weather grip, feel, ride quality and tyre wear.

I'd second that ventura's were a sublime tyre their wet handling characteristics on my old Alfa 33 were unsurpassed truly amazing. On a wet track day I tested them to the limit, they made the Alfa handle in the wet the same as if it was dry I literally couldn't loose it without being totally stupid. I rave but they were astounding in the wet. Dry handling was OK nothing spectacular but you want grip in the wet really the only down side was a hard ride, quick wear rate (12k on the front compared to 16K for Goodyear F1's, backs lasted for 45K, you can't drive an Alfa 33 sensibly[;)][}:)] the steering wheels must be impregnated with mad aggresive drug) and noise.
