C5 workshop manual

Post by Nick-a »

I have my local dealer trying to locate the price and availability of a set of workshop manuals for 2.2hdi C5 ( he thinks it will be approx £150 )
Is it going to be worth buying these books or does every job need a lexia? eg.
I filled up the eolys tank (paticle filter fluid)the light didn't go off. Dealer wanted £16.80 +vat to plug into lexia (fluid cost £49 just gone up to £60) expensive anti-pollution ! and i haven't replaced exhaust filter yet.
Just had £357 of radius arm bearings fitted they depressurised system using lexia
I want to fit cam belt when nec do i need a lexia for that too?
Also I replced rear brake pads, the callipers had corroded badly around the pad pins can these
A: be welded redrilled
B: fix a metal plate around corroded area
C: as I have done temp fix, araldite pin
D: New expensive calliper time

Be aware that manuals sold by manufacturers are very basic compared to Haynes. They do not have step 1-68 for instance as they are complied for 'trained' mechanics with some degree of prior knowledge. They also constantly refer to specialist tools which are unlikely to be available to the home mechanic, Haynes whilst far from perfect does normally offer a way out of these types of problems.
I have several original manuals for my Xantia and I must say they are not that useful, due to their lack of information.
Personally with the cost being £150 I'd want a very good look first before spending that much. Have you asked to see the workshops copy?

Eh?? eolys? paticle? lexia? What's all that mean? [?]
I am sure that a set of manuals will appear at an autojumble by the time you need a cambelt. I just picked up a set for the ZX for £20 - clean condition, 5 ring binders including lots of tech bulletins. Weight a ton. Unlike Richard's Xantia manuals, I have found them very informative; Haynes tend to be full of important mistakes and the pictures are very poor indeed. The Cit manuals tend to use pictures instead of words where they can - once you get used to the symbols, this is good.
I would not attempt to repair your brake calipers - maybe these need to become a regular maintenence item, as they do on BX, GSA, and others

I'm similarly interested. I'm also horrified at Citroen repair prices.
How about Autodata 2004? There used to be a free link to download it from the net on Usedcarmart Forums but not any more. Some people are selling it electronically for around £30 so we could club together if it's any good.
