Unfortunately my '97 1.8 16v Xantia LX was reversed into something 'hard'and although the damage doesn't look too severe, it was a write off.
After nearly 5 weeks and about 7 'phone calls, the Insurance Company have yet to collect the car, which is sitting outside my house on the roadside. I was paid out after about 10 days, so in effect the car belongs to them.
This car was purchased by me when 'nearly new' and has been well looked after with only 58,000 miles on the clock.
My dilemma is, can I sell/give the car to someone for spares or repair?
The insurance company doesn't seem to be interested in collecting it.

If it was Comprehensive insurance, and they've paid you out for the car, then it belongs to them. If you tried to sell it you'd be selling their property!
Probably best to contact them to advise unless they remove it you will be charging them Storage at £10 a day or whatever, then they will get someone to collect it plenty quick!

I am however perplexed as to why they don't seem interested in fetching this car.

Because it will cost them money to dispose of it.
Ring them up and ask how much they want for it. You could try threatening them with storage costs but I doubt you'll get far like that.
If they won't sell you it for next to nothing then fill the V5 in, cash in the tax give it a couple of days then leave it somewhere (preferably on their doorstep).[}:)]

I've been promised that the car will be picked up this week.
I was talking with my tongue firmly in my cheek when I said that I wanted to break it. I haven't got the storage space unfortunately.
The car has only 56k on the clock (I did say 58k earlier, but was wrong) and was in excellent pre- accident condition. It still drives. In fact, it feels 'tighter' than my recently acquired '99 Xantia Hdi.
What I will do though, is find out where it will be going and let you know, just in case it isn't being put back on the road.
What a shame if such a lovely car is broken though.

As promised, the location of my now departed Xantia is
Century Salvage Sales ltd
Newbridge Lane
Cambridgeshire
PE14 0SE
01945 581651.
reference 313675
It has been catagorised as 'C', so will probably be repaired if they can sell it.
If not, I assume it will be broken.
I'm sorry that I couldn't be of any more help.
