I've run a 1998 2.1 Xantia estate for six years and it's a great car. Pre-purhase checks need be no more than what you would do on any other Xantia. Leaking rear doors and dropped front doors have been reported on this forum, although, fortunately I haven't noticed either fault on my car. Maintenance is similar to any other XUD. Replacement of glowplugs require a bit more dismantling. And replacing of the cambelt needs the top engine mount bracket removing from the inner wing. The clutch is a sealed for life hydraulic system.

Rattling hydraulic cam-followers are the only real bane of the TD12 - but it will go on running for thousands of miles (mine has over 530 000 km on the clock, XM TD12 '93) It's the best engine PSA ever made.
