Has anyone seen the film Ronin?

Post by Mosser »

It has a very impressive car chase in it between an Audi S8 and a Citroen XM V6 (this was the only reason i bought it on DVD), the way the big heavy XM is being driven has to be seen to be believed!, I'm pretty good a car handling and have done a few track days but i never threw my XM around as it was too big and heavy,
It was more of a luxury cruiser than a racer, I still miss my XM sometimes!

Ian,
I have seen it (4 times) and I have it on DVD (somewhere, not easy to locate with a little toddler around [:D])
The movie is great, even besides taking the cars into account!
How is the Xantia behaving these days? My little one finally decided that my company car is OK to sleep in and that is what he does these days when I drive up to Tesco's. Still miss the Xantia, but I will survive with the current car. The comp car is due for replacement in 1.5 years time and appearantly I can choose a Cit then! C5 here I come (if there isn't another model on the market by then [?])
Have a good weekend!
Cheers,
John

Hi John,
The Xantia is going really nicely!, its had new engine oil (quartz 9000 fully synth), new oil filter, new pollen filter, new air filter, new spark plugs, new gearbox oil (BV new formula) and gearbox slick50 treatment (gearshift is really smooooth now!!!), i have greased all the damper shafts of the suspension by rubbing grease all over them by hand (as recommended on here) and the suspension is slightly better but there wasnt anything wrong with it when i got it anyway as it has a really smooth magic carpet ride!!, and i have also greased all the gearchange linkages, I cleaned the engine and stopped the tiny coolant leak from the thermostat housing with a new gasket,
i topped up the battery electrolyte as the battery voltage was low (needed 3/4's of a litre, eeek!!), Exhaust rattle from back box sorted as i mentioned in my email to you by rotating it slightly),
I have got some hydraclense for the suspension and will be changing the suspension fluid on sunday, and i have also sourced a replacement exhaust manifold for £35 as it is blowing enough to fail its up comming MOT now,
Its covered just over 4000 miles since i got it from you and although it didnt really need anything doing when i got it from you, i just thought i would give it the full going over and do everything !!, it also gave me the chance to go over it in detail so i could become familiar with everything on it, It has been cleaned and polished every weekend so far and is looking almost like new!, i totally got rid of those small scratches by putting paint into them and then t-cutting and polishing with a buffing machine, you can just see a very faint mark where they were if you know where to look and if your closer than 6 inches to the surface!!
I will be doing a cam belt and idler pulley and aux drivebelt change next month (cant afford it at the mo!!), but it is running really nicely and is very quiet and comfortable to drive, my wife really likes driving it too as she says the steering takes no effort and everything is in the right place!!, its sometimes a battle between us as to who gets to drive!
Cheers
Ian

Yep saw it at the cinema on its limited release and then bought the DVD. The making of is funny in the dvd extras as it shows how a lot of the driving was done. They rigged up seats in the boots of the cars on platforms and the stunt drivers drove them from there with the real actors inside pretending to turn the wheel etc. Yes this is not a joke :)

and on the subject of films with french cars, there are the Taxi films, 1,2 and 3 with the worlds most stupidly modified 406 in. They are in french but with subtitles. Its like a james bond car, he pushes a button and extra wings and all sorts appear out and it seems to have at lesat 500bhp lol. Rent the first one from blockbusters if youre bored one night :)

Yeah I've got the first one on DVD the start with the Pizza delivery moped is madness (I'm a biker). Quality film. Funny how a 406 is the taxi should have been a silver estate like all the taxis in my town.

[:D] This car will get you out of diesels forever! [:0] Your Peugeot is a nice car but it will never beat the Xantia! Sorry about the battery, I didn't know that (I did rely on the Cit specialist) You know what you are doing and it makes my wife and I smile big time! We will come up your place some time soon and catch up.
Say hi to your wife and kid from us ...
Cheers,
J & S
P.S. how are the twins doing/going .. everything fine?

No worries on the Battery John, it was an easy fix, i always have deionised water in the garage anyway, Main dealer garages quite often miss things like that even though they are meant to check them because the technicians are under lots of pressure from their service manager to get each car done as quick as possible and move on to the next car, whereas i take my time over doing each job and make sure it is done to the best of my abilities no matter how long it takes
Your welcome to come up to our place any time you want, we'll have to coffee and biscuits ready !!, house is a bit of a mess at the moment as i am just finishing the redecorating of the whole house and still tiling the kitchen
Twins are doing very well, not long to go now, and i still havent decorated the spare bedroom as a nursery yet!, its on the list of jobs for me to do!
