ZX Driveshaft

Post by stew »

I replaced the control arms on my ZX over the weekend. Unfortunately when changing the near side I pulled the driveshaft out of the transmission so that gearbox oil poured out. I topped up the oil thinking all would be OK. Unfortunately it is now making a horrible knocking/grating noise.
Any ideas?

Have a peep under the front of car, exactly where the n/s driveaxle enters the differential unit. Does it look like a shining part of the axle is not homed fully in the diff ?
Then simply try home the axle.

Just double check as Anders says that you have pushed the driveshaft fully home. If so just check that you have not inadvertenly puled one of the CV joints apart or that you haven't got a gear box oil leak, thus letting the newly filled box to empty. Could be some thing simple like a wheel liner rubbing against the wheel.
