Radio 3030

Post by Rivendell »

A few weeks ago I determined the radio model and obtained a copy of the user guide (many thanks to NP for this)
Now this model apparently supports the use of a personal CD player through the CD socket on the front of teh unit. If this is correct, can somebody advise me where I can obtain such a cable which obviously would need a small jack plug on either end.
Cheers

Argos/Halfords used to do a car cd kit.A holder & stand, plus cables. For use with a personal cd player. My dad used to have one.Put the cd on the stand(which was damped 4 vibrations)plug the cd into the radio socket, then play it through the car stereo.Dont know if they still do it.Cost about £10.

I've seen a kit that had a velcro pad that was attached to the transmission tunnel (yes I know). The personnal CD player was then stuck on in a vertical position by the drivers left leg. Power was taken from the cigar lighter.
The whole think looked messy with cables running up the face of the dash and the controls on the CD player difficult to access, but I've seen a few of these kits for sale usually in places that 'specialise' in selling goods for a few pounds.
I may be wrong on this but I think that the input will not be digital.

it is just a standard analoge input, dont try putting digital singals into it otherwise the high pitched screetch you get is very incomfortable for the ears

Heh!, i certainly am John !,
You'd be really suprised at how much i have learnt since i got your car!, its running very nicely still by the way and i have covered over 3000 miles in it already, it is supremely comfortable and i am finding i am getting around 550 miles to £52 of fuel which isnt bad!
I have got to getthe right rear wheel balanced before it damages the wheel bearing as it started to vibrate a few days ago, and i have got some BV new formula oil for the gearbox and some slick 50 for gearboxes that i will be doing at the weekend along with cleaning the MAF sensor with brake cleaner spray as it has got a flat spot around 3k rpm and i think its down the the MAF, I will also be getting some hydraflush and running that for a few thousand miles and cleaning the resovoir and filters, its already had new spark plugs, engine oil and filter and air filter,
i cleaned the engine but noticed the undertray is missing which is making the engine quite dirty so i am going to look in a scrappy to see if i can get a used one to put on, the undertray helps pull the hot air out of the engine bay by creating a low pressure spot just behind the lip where the slot is so it does serve a purpose !!

[:I] wow, this does make me look "stupid" a bit! I didn't know there should be a tray under the engine. Shows you how much I know about cars. As you know, I kept the car in working order by going to the CIT garage in time. But the way you do it, you will save lots of money. I'm sure of that. Glad to here that you are more than happy with the car. Good to know and hear [:)]
Regarding the flat spot a 3k rpm: that could have to do something with the fact that I hardly ever pushed the car beyond the 3k rpm. I did this to preserve the engine and save fuel at the same time (not sure if that was the right way to do it though).
I'm sure you will have the car in more than perfect condition soon, as you won't have much time to spend on the car when the twins arrive! [:p]
Cheers mate!
