AX Front Brakes

Post by ItDontGo »

The old AX always locks its front left well before the front right feels like its going to lock. The pads and discs are OK so do you think bleeding them will cure this?

It's worth a go, but probably won't make a difference. It's much more likely to be a caliper that needs stripping, freeing up and copper greasing. Check that the rubber boots are intact and securely fitted as well.
A brake fluid flush won't go amiss while you've got the wheels off. Of course - when you go near them, the bleed nipples will snap off like a twig so you'll have fun there....

Yep sure sign that the calipers need a strip and clean. You could get away with just taking out the pads and getting some one to press the brake pedal. When the piston comes out (not all the way) push back in and repeat again. Then do other side. This may free up the calipers pistons. Personally though if you have the time strip and clean properly.
