although they dont test the abs, if the warning lights on I think it can be failed on it as this happened to me. Turned car off and back on and the intermittent light stayed off and it passed. Of course this year it also passed however the MOT was just after I had the dash apart and was fiddling with the dash bulbs say no more

If the light is on,it will fail.Although,no light=ok.Pull the fuse for the abs.If the light goes off, then the car will pass.If the light is on,the abs will not work anyway.

thank you guys, i do plan on fixing the abs it's just i don't have the time right now with having no mot, if pulling the fuse does not work do you know if it's possible to remove instrument panel without having to remove steering wheel.

No idea on a xantia im afraid, on the zx you have to go in via the centre console to remove the speedo cable as well as remove the steering wheel. I guess if you had really tiny hands you could do it just from the front with the wheel in place but would be damm tricky

No,i think the wheel has to come off.Although saying that, last year my airbag light came on.Local specialist had to take wheel off to do the metal contacts. The exterior temp display bulb had blown(below rev counter).Went to pick car up,asked if they had done the bulb,no.Took it back in the work shop, out in 10 mins.Seems fast as they had to take wheel off etc to get dash out.
Maybe there is a way of just geting it out enough to change/remove the bulb.

It also depends how eagle-eyed the tester is. If he spots that the light is never coming on (that the system is not indicating a self test) then that is a fail also.

Not owning a Xantia, I don't know exactly where the ABS warning light is located. However, on the XM it's just above the lower edge of the instrument cowl. Very convenient, because a mobil phone "accidently" left lying in the recess neatly covers any glaring yellow lamp!
