Citroen XSARA SXTD 1998 Problem with the Fans.

Post by omri75 »

Please help me.
I Have A WEIRD Problem.
Before the problem started, this is the Data:
90C on hot day, without A/C
75C On hot day, With A/C
Today, its
90C on hot day without A/C
95C on hot day with A/C
i dont know english very well, but i can tell that the Fans are not working as they used to, its not Getting in to 12V Mode.
only 9V works.
But, sometimes if you press hard on the gas pedel, or turning on/off the car, they Get intoaction at 12V Speed.
But quickly shutting down.
I Suspect(from what im reading here) This is the bitron unit. The engine is DHY Turbo Diesel Engine.
Where can i find this Bitron on xsara TD?
and if it does use bitron, what his color, or how can i Bypass it.
thank you.

1) Do the fans work OK on any speed with out the A/C on?
2) What speed or speeds will the fan work with the A/C on?
Is the A/C in good condition, has the system been checked for any leaks or problems with the gas?

The A/C Is on prefect condition.
the Fans work without Air Condition
The fans work on slow speed with Air condtion , but wont work at 12V .
only sometimes rarely, and its not Related to the Engine heat.
The Bitron has been checked, and replaced to a new one.
the problem still exist.
any Suggestion?

Try unpluging the brown 2 pin temperature sensor located near the thermostat & turn the ignition switch to on.
Do the fans roar into life now?

I have, Clean the terminals in the brown plug, wd40 or something like that.
With a very small flate blade screwdrive make sure that the gap between the terminails isnt to large.
Plug the brown plug back on & try the car for a few days a & report back.

Its just tired French electrics, The terminals get dirty & the gaps in between the terminals in the socket part of the connector gets bigger & you end up with strange electrical faults.
Im not sure if the Xsara has these fitted, but the big round connectors behind the left hand headlamp that Peugeot & Citroen used on some cars are really a load of rubbish when they get older & the cause of a lot of electrical faults too.

Hi
Its the brown plug that sends the Bitron unit the information to run the fans.
You might need to fit a new temperature sensor to the car.
Have a look at this link, It has the circuit diagram for the Pug 306 with aircon & twin fans.
Click on Electrical at the top, & then click on 306 cooling fans basic principles of operation in the list on the left hand side.
http://www.peugeotlogic.com/workshop/base/workshop.htm
Peugeot & Citroen are the same company, So the circuit should match up with whats fitted to your Xsara
