Timing belt replacement

Post by oscarloco »

What is the recommended timing belt change interval? My ZX has
140000 Km and 1 timing belt change. I don't remember if the interval is 75000 Km. Does somebody know?

According to Haynes, the timing belt should be renewed 48000 miles or earlier if:
- contanminated with oil
- noisy in operation(scrapping noise due to uneven wear)
Since it is not an expensive replacement compared to cost of repair in the event a belt breaks or slips in service, it's wise to change it at intervals recommended by Haynes or every 3-4 years which ever is earlier. You will appreciate the difficulty in determining the remaining life span of the belt by just observing the markings/letterings printed on the belt unless you have the record or the expertise. Better to be safe than sorry.
Hope this helps.
