I have a 1995 Xantia 1.9D (automatic) which seems to have a problem which I'm not sure is mechanical or electrical (or both!)
The radiator cooling fans don't work when connected at the top of the engine (there is a plug there). If I unplug from the top of the engine, only one of the fans operate and operates all of the time (which obviously means that the car is using more diesel than it should).
If I plug the fans back in, you can hear the fans attempting to start, but when the left hand (as you look at them facing the radiator) one fails, the attempt stops, so the fans don't start.
Is there a simple test to see if the left hand fan does actually work (it could just be jammed with dirt and needs a short sharp shock to clear it) before having to get the part or taking it to an autoelectricians.
