xm clutch

Post by chopper666 »

would a new clutch on an xm be expensive, bear in mind NO technical ability, it would have to go to a garage?
Its not needing one yet, just thinking ahead.

The clutch on 4-cylinder XM's can be changed without removing the gearbox completely, so it shouldn't cost more than any other car of a similar size.

I got quoted £250 + VAT for a Xantia clutch but did it myself in the end for the price of a new clutch, 2 litres of BV and an LHM change. Took rather a lot of hours...
I'd suspect that the XM would be a very similar job, engines being common etc...

I understand that some Mr Clutch outfits will do it with engine in situ for circa £200.00.
Many other places will insist on engine out. Meaning 14 hours labour ... (gulp..)

"Many other places will insist on engine out."
- strange - even Citroën give it as a replacement with engine in situ - not even the gearbox needs to be dropped - just unscrewed and moved into the space at the side.
Still, depending on the mileage, it may well be a good idea to give the whole power train a once over . . .

Fancy a laugh?
Ask "Mr Clutch" how much to do a clutch on a V6 XM.
.. then feel good about how little the 2 litre is costing you.
