Xsara Steering creaking when turning

Hi I have a 1998 1.9LXTD Xsara Hatchback, The problem is a creaking noise when I am turning into junctions or driveways, any ideas what the problem might be and is it easy to fix

where is the creaking coming from.

seems to be coming from down round the wheels

Our ZX had a very pronounced creaking when putting lots of steering lock on (sounded like a wheel was about to fall off in multi-storey car parks[xx(]). I thought it was the strut top bearing, but the MOT was failed on split front wishbone rear bush (there was also some knocking by this stage!). Replacement of the bush (well the whole arm actually as it was just as cheap and a lot easier) cured it.

I think it's had one of these already if I remember rightly it must wear through them in no time

My ZX has had a creaky stut top bearing for years - never seems to get any worse and is only noticeable at low speeds...
