I bought a '92 xm 2ltr 5 dooron thursday 17th, i am very pleased with it but central locking has a mind of its own mainly after rain. It locks then unlocks straight away. It will sometimes take 8/10 goes to lock from the remote central locking, and other times locks straight away. The same happens when opening, sometimes opens first time, other times takes a few goes. (i cannot lock the car using key, dont know if this is supposed to happen?)
Furthermore at times i have left the car and returned to find it has unlocked itself while i have been away.
Also boot does not lock with central locking, would this be a big job to put straight.
Where should i start, any ideas / suggestions.
many thanks [8]

Hello!
On locking probs like these i always check for broken wires between the door post and door. Start with the drivers door and pull back the rubber sleeve that contains the wires for the electric window and central locking. Give a modarate pull on each wire, a broken wire will reveal it self by pulling out.
Hope that helps.

Hi there,
The central lock relay on series 1 XM seems to fail easily. It is located inside the compartment below the steering wheel. Remove the compartment, remove the aluminium tray, then lock/unlock to identify the relay box.
Try to repair first or otherwise change with a japanese unit. Trouble is the jap unit will behave differently: when you lock driver door...all doors will lock but when you unlock...not all doors will unlock. Maybe you can try the scrapyard for an original replacement.
