what are these pipes??

Post by chris95 »

Follwing the last post, have pulled two black plastic pipes that were pushed into the rear suspension beam in the centre by the fuel tank mount bolt.
are these breathers? or should they be connected to something? as the leak is definately from these pipes

Chris,
AFAIK they are breathers, and shouldn't be connected to anything. They also shouldn't be leaking fluid.... Sounds like one or both of your rear cylinders has failed[:(]

Before you spend any money on new rear cylinders, try a dose of Omega 917 seal restorer. I've used it on my '93 XM TD12, both in the engine (leaking crankshaft seal behind flywheel) and in the LHM-system (same problem as you - LHM leaking out of breathers). It's quite expensive for such a little bottle (=£25 for 177ml), but it's saved me a much larger cost and has been working for over two years now.
I haven't seen it in the UK (haven't looked either!) but if you check out the attached website ( a popular Swedish Citroën specialist) you can see what it looks like. It is a professional product, used a lot on earthmoving equipment, so it's not Bull***t!

Nisk,
The sealer you mention probably won't work with rear cylinders as they are a metal to metal fit (not even a piston ring type seal), I think the sealer you mention works by restoring the flexibility of the material used for making oil seals.
You could check that the overflow return, which is the other pipe coming out of the gaiter on the suspension strut is not blocked or trapped.
