Cylinder head swap?

Post by bernie »

The cylinder head on my BX 1.9D n/a needs replacing.[xx(][xx(]
Can anyone confirm that a c/head from a PUG 405TurboD 1.9 will fit.
I will obviously swap the cams for the hyd. pump pulley.
I see in the past Jon had put a 1.9 head on a 1.7TD so does it work the other way?
Anyone help?

It will fit fine, swap cams and build it up, take the opportunity to pop a new cambelt on, then check gaps after turning it over several times, then check gaps as per BOL but normally ok unless head has had work previously.Good Luck

Compression ratio is slightly lower for the turbo head so might have a bit less sparkle, and I seem to remember a difference in the shape of exhaust port, don't know if its significant though.

Could you not have it skimmed to get the compression ratio back up?

Skimming the head will not increase the compression ratio, the head is flat, no combustion chamber.

I've looked at the 2 heads together and they look the same.
The exhaust and inlet ports are the same Dave.
Yes the head is flat so compression ratio must be determined by piston tops.
Valves look the same size also.
As an aside I've been offered a 1769 (1800) recon. head, would that fit a 1900 block? Has anyone got a 1769 and 1905 head gasket that they can compare?

Bernie
I think the valve seat angles are different for the inlet valve - N/A 30 degrees, TD 45 degrees which would give better gasflow for TD. I think the material itself is different too - advantage TD I would have thought.
Does anyone know anything about overboring blocks or stroking these engines?

I've swapped over the head from the 405TD to the BX19 n/a and it works[:)]
One little mistake I made I did not plug the hole for the oil feed to the vacuum pump (405).
I started the engine and lost about 3 pints of oil over the g/box, suspension, bonnet, headlight, bumper, driveway, subframe it went everywhere[:(][:(]
Won't go rusty[:D]
