Quartz 9000 Oil

Post by volcane305 »

Where can I get a cheap supply of the above oil. I plan to change every 7-8k miles in my xsara 110 hdi due to entusiastic driving style so want to get a supply that will last a year or two (4 changes per year). Based in N.Ireland.

I'm not going to volunteer to send you a supply, living where I do[:D] but from experience I've found if you contact your local distributor and tell them you want to but it in 20 litre lots (a carton of 4 X 5 litre bottles) they'll usually talk a good deal.

I bought 20 litres not long ago from a supplier, though for the life of me I can't remember who and where, as it was couriered to me. The cost was £59inc. delivery so I'll look for the name of the place for you when I get home.
OK, I tracked them down. Unfortunately the oil when I bought it was a special price, they now want £94inc. delivery for 20 litres. You can now buy oil again from GSF online, and they are selling it at £17.04/5litres plus delivery. So if you order your two years supply in one go, it will work out cheaper to get it from GSF, assuming they deliver to N.Ireland.

Thanks Reffro, I also recall seeing somewhere at £59 but thought it would be easy enough to get it at that price when I needed it. Alans maybe I could collect from you?????!!!! but would be expensive oil and She might not take that as a valid reason for heading down under!!!!

To give you some idea of the possible price differences, I was told that a certain Elf synth was $23 a litre in Sydney from a car accessories shop.
I can buy it for $10 from the distributor, so it's worth having.

I just go to the local Big 'W' store out here. They have Shell Helix in 5litre containers 15-50 semi-synthetic (which I thinks a pretty reasonable sort of oil for most motors) for about $25.00 (or 10pounds).
I've never found cheaper oil with a decent rating than there (eg: 20-40 mineral oil is always cheap, but unless it's a bog stander CX or DS, why would you use such a thick oil ??).

20-40 is actually thinner than 15-50 at engine operating temperatures.
The 15 or 20 is the low temperature viscosity where as the 40 or 50 is the high temperature viscosity.

Yep,
that's right, however startup time the most important when it comes to how thick oil is [:p] I like 'em thick when the motor is hot, and thin when the motor is cold.
