Aaaaghhhh, the trusty visa 1.7 diesel failed its MOT on emissions today. Was at 3.93 and supposed to be lower than 2.5, how do i cure that? Any adjustments that can be mate? Its got the roto diesel fuel pump on it.
Any suggestions welcome.

You did in fact replace the air filter ?
A diesel can not be adjusted by common means, so you may revert to a diesel specialist (not Citroen) for a tune up on the Roto pump timing.
Also it's wellknown that a good long trash run with the car, seems to "clean" the engine. Any injection/diesel cleaner additive to the fuel usually also makes small wonders.

Yep! We had an F Reg Visa 17D (what a fine car) and it never failed emissions after an "Italian decoke", and recent air and fuel filter. Its last MOT before we sold it was at 197,200.
Get the old Visa good and hot before the test, also try some injector cleaner, "Forte" being the best. Good car. (I'm getting all sentimental now) [8)]

If the thrashing doesn't help, you can break (if not allready done) the wire seal on the transfer pressure screw and screw it outwards (anti clock) by half a turn, that is usualy enough to get them through.
Its at the rear of the pump on the engine facing side and is lock nutted, doing this will rob the engine of some power but you might think the car is not worth going to the expense of reworked injectors and so on, so this may be a necessary evil to keep it going without spending money.

cool, I parted with my visa diesel which was my first car when it was on 126,000. Only got the one heavily modified GTi at the moment. Would love to get another standard gti though, I keep looking out on the french ebay for one as over there they suffer from much less rust. You can go there and still see mk1 visa's with the ugly front end which stopped in what 78 or something!

I had a Gti. A lte 115ch one, it was totally immaculate when i got it, it was in 2001. The previous owner had just had all new citroen doors, all new shocks, wheels blasted and re-done, partial re-spray he had the graphics re made as you cant get them anymore, a proper pocket rocket. I sold it to a guy who minor shunted it and it sat on his drive for 18 months, i meant to buy it back but never quite got round to it.

gah may have been the one i saw on a visa mailing list before damm! Im also still annoyed to this day about one I missed on ebay due to faffing/busy at work. It was a french LHD one someone had bought out there when he went to work in france for 2 years. He moved back to uk and bought it with him. Totally immaculate and had a 1.9 instead of a 1.6 in it and it went for about £500, wouldnt hesitate to buy it now if it was for sale again

But nothing just turn it back when you're done at the MOT station! Thats what I'd do. You could even ask him to lend you a spanner to turn it back again! But ofcourse none of us on this forum would do that now would we officer.
