Xantia sphere hydraulic pipe

Post by Cuffy12 »

Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone had replaced the bendy hydraulic pipe from the front -off side sphere ? I have been told that the pin hole that I've found under the clamp which holds the pipe to the inner wing is a common problem by my local Citroen specialist, and is a bit of a fiddle. Is it worth while having ago myself ? Thats after its been on a 500 mile round trip to Dorset and back next week for the annual hols. Thanx in advance Cuffy.[8D]

Hi,
Have a look at the comments by D J Wollard in this topic.
This pipe is very tricky to fit apparently.

The O/S/F pipe to sphere chafed through on my petrol Xantia about this time last year. I got the part from the nearest dealer ( cost about £10 ), took one look at it in relation to where it went, and sent the car to my friendly local mechanic to fix.
Afterwards, with a bill of £75 (quite a lot for him...) he made some comments about the job - the only thing I can possibly repeat here was his statement "It must have been one of the first things they put into the car!".
If you're going on a 500 mile trip - leave the Xantia at home, or get it fixed first. The leak doesn't seem bad at first, but it's a high pressure pipe and the escaping LHM will erode the hole until it literally gushes out. Before mine was fixed it was losing about 1 litre every 5 minutes, you do the math...
Stu.

Thanks for the relpies, it looks like I'll have to risk taking the Xantia, as the Father-in -law is now coming with us , so need the extra space and the thought of driving his standard diesel escort all that way with five of us in it makes me shudder ! May give the pipe ago when I get the skin back on my arm after falling off a dirt bike a week ago.[:(]
