Can anyone tell me how to alter the fuel mix on a 2.0i 8v XM.
On ignition it coughs and splutters for about 6 seconds and often stalls until eventually settling down to 1000 rpm.
Is it the fuel mix?

William,
- this is not possible on modern injection cars.
Instead you should try trace down any dodgy temp sensor (or cabling), telling the ECU about engine temperatures.
This could be the CTS (cooling temp sensor) or the ATS (air temp sensor) or associated cabling/connectors.
Note that these sensors are separate for the ECU, not the same sensors used for any gauges/indicators in the instrument panel.
These sensors are NTC resistors, having high ohm's when cold (up to 10K), and reaching down to (or below) the 1K ohm range when hot.
You can then immediately tell that a corroded connector or cabling would give HI ohm's, resembling a (faulty) cold sensor, thus (wrongly) telling the ECU the engine is still cold, feeding too much fuel.
A common problem.
