Regret to inform that "pobble" is a pre-existing word but this coinage is new. It was used at least 10 years ago by Mike Rosewell the rowing correspondent of the Times to describe the wind disturbed surface of a rowing course. My old BX hydraulic pump used to go "shlshlshlshlshl" and it didn't even need fava beans and a nice Chianti to do it.

Edward Lear had something to say about pobbles AFAIR, but I have spent many happy hours at Pobbles Bay, just to the East of Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsular in South Wales. No Citroens to be seen there, just lots of sand and waves.

It's probably one of those things like baps/teacakes/barm cakes/bread cakes/muffins that have umpteen different names in different regions. Here 'oop north' it is 'pobs' [:D]
Not that I have ever tried it, you understand [;)]
As for the ZX pobble, I may be hunting it today, if time [:)]

WE could be onto a winner here;
A board game "Hunt the Pobble."
A food for the "in-set."
A new word for the Oxford Dictionary
A new word to help win a game of scrabble.
A suggested name for a new car; "I drive a VW Pobble."
A final question for "Who wants to be a Millionaire." (Define one)
d'ya reckon we ought to copyright it?[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]
