Xantia HDi Air Con not working

Post by courier »

I have recently bought a 1999 Xantia HDi, the problem is when I switch on the air con unit the dashboard indicator light comes on but nothing else happens. Can anybody help?

unfortuanately there could be many things wrong with the system. probably the best thing to start with is to make sure there are no obvious things wrong - fuses, fittings etc.
If all appears ok the best thing to start with is to first verify you have enough refridgerent/pressure in the system (this is a dealer or a/c specialist job but not that costly) as a/c on cars does require periodic recharging. a/c must also be used occasionally just to keep the seals in good order. you may be lucky and only require the recharge ......

Have a look at the separator usually located on the left hand side of vehicle if looking into engine bay from the front.
It is a cylinder type object with two pipes and a wiring plug connected to it, there should be a sight glass in the top, if this is empty then it needs a recharge, if it looks green or full then your problem lies else where.
Can you hear the pump click in when the aircon switch is pressed ?

Fuses and fittings seem ok,can,t hear the pump click in when the air con is switched on.Except for an occasional bubble I can,t see any fluid in the separator.

as tebster mentions no fluid in sightglass will be a problem, with most a/c systems there is a low pressure safety switch preventing operation. you can still have fluid in the circuit but not enough to operate the system.
