Xantia 2.1TD - Prices???

Post by ozzie »

Having not owned a Citroen for many years I am spending many long hours looking at Xantia's, mainly 1.9TD models, but have now spotted a 2.1TD and since they seem to be rather rare, I was wondering if anyone knows what sort of price on average one would expect to pay for Xantia 2.1TD of 1998 with about 100k on the clock.
Thanks

Come on you guys - break my heart. I bought a 2.1 SX estate, new in 1998 which set me back sixteen and a half grand. According to Honest John, it's worth £1200 now - £1360 if it's described as 'excellent'

I have to say owning both a 1.9TD and a 2.1TD Xantia the 2.1 is significantly better in terms of performance and is certainly more economical on an out of town run. The down side is that the insurance (UK anyway) was also significantly higher. £400 against £300. Last year I paid £2900 at a dealer for a 1998 2.1TD Exclusive with 100k miles whereas I could have got a similar 1.9TD for around £2300 in dealers and for less than £2000 privately. As you say they are nowhere near as common as 1.9's. At the time in my area (Yorkshire) once I decided it had to be a 2.1 (unfortunately one 5 mile test drive in the 2.1 and I wasn't going to settle for a 1.9) there was a choice of one and the dealer knew it. I really had to work hard to get anything off the screen price and in the end had to settle for £100 off, free delivery and a tank of diesel.
Best of luck with the hunt, although there have been a couple on ebay recently, £2,500 to £3,000 should get you one if you're patient.
