Xantia bouncing at rear

Post by thesaint »

Help my car seems to be bouncing at rear and is getting worse I can't aford to take it to a dealer and would realy appreciate some suggestions.
it seems to bounce even when I go over a small bump at fairly slow speeds.
I cant find anything in the manual.
also the suspension seems to go up and down more at the front, i.e. the lowest is lower and the highest is higher.
any advice greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance Chris

You need rear spheres!! Not as bad as it sounds! £18 each and about an hours labour, Thats if you DIY, try the search.

Try the Citaerobics.
Then post again if problems are persistent.
Please be specific with details on how the problem shows at startup, during drive, and the usual jerk-each-corner for softness test.

just a thought could even be the rear height corrector sticking
seems to be a common fault with citreons

Chris,
Seems you have more than one fault. Bit of fault finding:
1. Car in normal height, engine running. Does it look level from the side?
2. Still at normal push down on the boot lid, is there 2-3 inches of easy movement?
3. Engine running, sit on the boot lip – car should go down a bit then a few seconds later push you back up. Once back up jump off and car should rise up then after a few seconds settle back down to normal height.
4. Put car in high, does the rear go up?
5. Put car in low, does the rear go down?
I suspect you will find no movement at 2 which means the rear spheres are flat. I also think you will find no movement in 3,4 and 5 which means the rear height corrector has seized up or the linkage has fallen off – if you are down or up in the air at the back in 1, then this will point to the link having fallen off.
Fortunately yours is an early LX so there are only 2 spheres at the back (one behind each wheel).
