Is theXM / Xantia 2.0i 16v 95/96 the same engine??

Post by andylee »

Hi all,
First of all great forum, lots of useful info and advice. Well done lads and lasses.
Now for my question. Please can someone confirm if the XM and Xantia 2.0i 16v 95/96 share the same engine??
I ask because I've been looking for a head gasket for my Xantia and after calling GSF they gave me a part number for a XM (N11162) stating that this was the correct gasket for my car. They told me that the gasket they have listed for the 2.0 Xantia is for a 93 model only!
I notice that on other websites that the XM and Xantia in most cases seem to share the same engine codes (XU10J4R)
Please can one of you experts confirm. Also does my car share any engine parts with peugeot and if so what model??
Many Thanks
Jon

OK
It depends on the age of the Xantia, there was a change in 1995 from the 155BHP XU10J4 engine to the 135BHP XU10J4R.(the change date was July 1995).The cylinder head varies quite a bit between the two engines, amd also the earlier engine has a 134 toothed cambelt where as the later one has 136 teeth.
If you have the XU10J4R then that engine is also used in the XM 2.0 16V, Xsara 2.0 16V >99 and also 306 and 406 Peugeots.

Many thanks Jon, mines the 136 tooth cambelt, so I guess the XM head gasket will fit.
Cheers
