Sensitive to wind and road stribes

Post by MrXantia »

My '98 Xantia 1.8-16V (km 196000) is very sensitive to wind and even stribings on the road. It handles like a drunk wheelbarrow with slow wobbling and its very hard to drive faster than 120 km/h without using more than one lane. I constantly need to countersteer.
I have almost new Michelin tyres, pressure is ok. Changed spheres about 1 year ago.
What can I check? What could be wrong?
Thanks
Lars

Could be your tracking gone off, I've had mine go a long way off for no apparent reason, didn't kerb it or any thing.
First thing I would do is jack it up and check wheel bearings, balljoints etc.
Could be just one of the spheres going hard, other side may be ok, I have heard this can cause weird handling.[V]

Could also be down to worn front arm bushes (thats what it eventually transpired to be on my car!)

I had a badly worn track rod end on a BX that gave symptoms like this. It was quite scary sometimes, particularly in cross-winds and I put up with it for far longer than I should have!
