Coolant Temperature Light AX GT

Post by cheesesliceking »

Hello,
The past 2 times i've started my car the Coolant temperature light comes on, Now i thought this light indicated that the Temperature was too hot? but how can this be when the engine has been sat all night and only just started up? the light goes off after about 1 min or so & sometimes the Battery light comes on and stays on at the same time & stays on for the same amount of time, Any ideas anyone?
Its a AX GT 1360cc 1990
Cheers ![8D]

Hi csk [:)]
I believe you have a Gremlin in the electrics - it's really hard to guess by Cyberspace.
As you know - for the instrument warning lamps to come on - they must be earthed by a sensor switch somewhere - the +12V feed to the lamps provided inside the instrument panel.
This means if the wiring loom is dodgy somewhere - corresponding warning lights sensor cables chafed and earthed anywhere - you get "false alarms".
If you don't already have one - then rush to "steal" a copy of these :

I believe your AX would have a central multipin connector for all engine switches/sensors, starter solonoid etc. etc.
That would be a good place to start tracing the problem.
