xantia misfire
hey people. query for you all. my 1995 xantia 1.8 8v is doing my head in. it's failed 3 mot's because of a misfire which is failing the cat test. it just passed last year at the 2nd attempt because of the same problem. first off, the lambda sensor was shown to be running lean. that's been changed but still no success. it's had new spark plugs and leads and is always regularly serviced. i've had to spend a bit of money for the re-test (swing arm bearing, 4 tyres) but still no pass. the bloke who did the mot said that the problem may lie with the ecu. i'm hoping it's not. any ideas cos i'm running out of them!
Failing the MOT on lean running ?
- commonly it's opposite : rich running.
Ever had the ECU fault codes read out ?
- as these points to the problem area - not pinpointing a defective device.
Only alternative to have the fault codes read out - is fault tracing by Murphy's law : you keep replacing parts untill the engine runs good again. That's quite (!) expensive - and the law says the fault is only cured when last possible part is replaced - i.e. the complete engine [8D]
