Needs a new barrel by the sounds of it, but more realistically a new lock.

The Xantia locks are designed to spin if too much force is applied or if the wrong key is used, to stop them being forced for the purpose of theft.

If the mechanism gets a little corrosion then the pins get stuck and the lock spins, even with the correct key. This can often be fixed by applying a suitable lock lubricant and exercising the lock. If that fails, a locksmith should be able to dismantle and clean the lock barrel.

You can normally strip them down & sort them for this fault.
The first pic shows the inner part of the barrel before the key is fully inserted & the second pic is with the key fully inserted, what normally happens to the lock is the tip of the key should engage with the little black bits with the arrows pointing to them, they splay out over time so when the key is inserted it doesn't push the little black bar out of the mechanism, this black bar engages with the rear part of the lock & allows it to turn. All you have to do when you take this bit out is give the little bits with the arrows a little squeeze in with a pair of pliers, when you re insert the key just make sure the little black bar pops out the back of the lock. Give it all a good clean out & re grease on reassembly. That should do the trick.
This particular lock has already had a little squeeze if you look closely.

My 406 did this on the passenger side because it rarely saw a key. Sprayed a load of WD (yes I know) in the lock and worked the key in and out several times and it came back to life.

You do know that WD stands for "We Don't", after Malcolm educated us, don't you?
