Wasting my time

Post by Gibbo2286 »

My scanner reports fuel neck sensor fault so I replaced it, it didn't fix it, I acquired the DPF ECU listed in Service Citroen new old stock, climbed under to fit it this morning, there no such thing in the place shown in the picture, so am I being wound up or is it somewhere else?
Item 20 in the image.

Oh, come on Gibbo, it's obvious from the diagram that it's behind the dashboard, to the left of the blower motor is't it? :rofl2:

If its fitted, yours will be in the OS sill by the rear door. move the carpet to check as its accessed from within the car itself

For the restyled C5 (MK II) it is to the left of the blower. If you have the version without the fuel cap sensor, then the engine ECU controls the additive pump. As he's having issues with the 'cap sensor', then almost a certainty he has the cap sensor version and therefore the separate additive ECU that on the C5 MK II is where I said.

Had a similar fault on my 2002 2.2 HDi, which is why i replied thats all. Mine needed the cable replacing between the filler cap and the additive pump - £100 for the part

That's a MK I and the location was different for the additive ECU on those models. usually bottom of the 'B' pillar right hand side. I was just trying to save Eric from tearing up the interior of the car looking for something that won't be there - as he's already been round the houses under the car looking for it :-D

It had the warning, first thing I looked at was the cap which was missing one of the magnets, then the cable from the neck to the connection under the pump cover still not fixed so moved on to this part.

It still says it's a cap sensor problem so I'm wondering if the 'new old stock' neck cable is faulty.

Too busy with other stuff today but if it remains dry tomorrow I'll have another go at it.

At least after getting underneath I know the additive tank's not empty

On systems with a separate additive ECU like yours, it also controls the fuel cap sensor - so if you are having issues with that, the ECU is still your best bet.

That's one of the reasons why they got rid of these additive ECUs as they were more trouble than they were worth - they moved control of the additive functions to the Injection ECU on later models.

Well I got that fitted, it was where Marc said it was, need an hour for my back to straighten up now before I get the scanner out, not too difficult apart from the acrobatics and then having to find the 10mm socket that decided to go and hide somewhere behind the trim. :(

Well no more pilates needed after that I suspect - BUT - did you remember to write down the quantity of additive injected into the DPF stored in the last ECU?

You'll need to programme that in for the new one. If you didn't or can't remember, then here is the guide:
Distance Travelled by the
Particulate Emission Filter
Quantity of Additive
Deposited in the Filter (In grams)
0 kms (0 mile)0 g
10 000 kms (6 250 miles)8 g
20 000 kms (12 500 miles)16 g
30 000 kms (18 750 miles)25 g
40 000 kms (25 000 miles)33 g
50 000 kms (31 250 miles)41 g
60 000 kms (37 500 miles)49 g
70 000 kms (43 750 miles)58 g
80 000 kms (50 000 miles)66 g
90 000 kms (56 250 miles)74 g
100 000 kms (62 500 miles)82 g
110 000 kms (68 750 miles)91 g
120 000 kms (75 000 miles)99 g
You may also need to tell it of your engine type (DW10BTED4), Gearbox type, etc. The values would of been stored in the old ECU.

No joy with that, still the same error codes plus one more 'additive pump open circuit or short to earth' don't take that as read I might have misremembered it when I closed down the scan.

Ok, but I've assumed you cleared the faults, and then told it you had a new part - and configured it?
